If the thought of putting oils on your face brings really bad breakouts to mind, think again. Ancient Egyptians kept their skin vibrant and flawless with Moringa Oil. And this (very) old-school beauty secret is making a pretty big comeback right now. In fact, the more I use facial oils the more I see my skin being clear, smooth and soft. I literally got addicted to it, I use oils every night before going to bed. On my face and body, as well as on my hair every now and then. But we'll be focusing on skin today. :)
Here are some amazing benefits you can get from using oils:
1. They can reduce your wrinkles
Too much unprotected ultraviolet light is a set-up for free radical damage. Some facial oils are packed with antioxidants, which prevent further ageing, so if you're affected by sun damage and dryness, look for products containing Primrose oil or those with a vitamin E base, such as Argan oil.
2. They are good for dry skin
High temperatures and in our case right now-Winter and heaters on at home can suck moisture straight from the skin. Oils are the ideal for dry, flaky skin and rough, rosy cheeks — and they can be much more effective at moisturising than your standard over-the-counter lotions and creams.
3. They really protect your skin
Oils can trap water and other moisturising goodness in your skin, while keeping toxins and other bad stuff out. Some oils also help to strengthen our own natural skin barrier. This is especially important for city girls like us who need extra protection against pollutants and smog, a known source of wrinkles.
4. They're the perfect primer for makeup.
Oils like mandarin and pumpkin seed zip through the top of skin, quickly settling comfortably into the areas that need hydrating the most. This gives an immediate plumping effect and creates the perfect canvas for your makeup, it will help it set nicely on your skin.
5. They can calm down rashes.
Many oils have anti-inflammatory properties as well, helping to quell irritated skin. Argan oil for example is ideal for irritations and Geranium oil is also very good for reducing redness from rosacea, as well.
FOR YOUR BODY
My skin gets really dry in the Winter period, so I make sure I keep a bottle of oil-or 3 ;) on my nightstand to make sure I avoid that uncomfortable pulling dry skin sensation. I've collected you some of my favourite ones I've been using lately.
ARGAN BEAUTY OIL FROM ARGANIC
Arganic beauty oil is perfect for when I have extra dry skin on my legs usually and on my feet. As I'm on my feet a lot, my skin can get really dry around my heels, so straight after showering, I normally put Argan oil on it to keep it from drying out even further. Make sure you buy 100% cold pressed oil for the best results! PS.: Don't be afraid to use it on your face and on your hair too!
ANTI-FATIGUE TONING BODY OIL FROM REN SKINCARE
We've been testing Ren Skincare's Atlantic Kelp and Microalgae range for a while now, and we've been loving it, so once they came out with this wonderful anti-fatigue body oil, we knew already we would love this product as well. The smell is just as lovely as the rest of the range. It softens our skin without leaving it greasy. LOVE.
BATH AND SHOWER OILS FROM BODHI & BIRCH
You can even use oils in your shower, or at bath time! I love Rosa Verde from Bodhi & Birch, the scent is just so wonderful not to mention 100% natural. All their range is lovely, but being a sucker for anything rose scented, I'd say this one is my personal favourite. :)
FOR YOUR FACE
As mentioned earlier, I am addicted to facial oils. There are some other really good ones I've tried, but this is the top three I've been using daily, as you can clearly see :))
APHRODITE FACIAL OIL FROM MOA
The MOA Aphrodite Facial Oil is an easily absorbed facial oil that helps to smooth fine lines and ward off premature ageing with its nourishing rosehip oil base.
ANTI-AGEING TREATMENT OIL FROM SAMAYA AYURVEDA
A concentrated blend of Ayurvedic botanicals and clinically proven active anti-ageing ingredients, this powerful treatment oil comprehensively targets the signs of skin-ageing, visibly reducing the appearance of wrinkles. We've been loving the whole range of Samaya Ayurveda, but oil is a real winner. Loving it!
ROSEHIP AND MANDARIN MOISTURISING OIL FROM STRIPPED SKINCARE
This is a light oil moisturiser that will nourish and moisturise skin without leaving it feeling oily. It helps to balance skin, clear blemishes and stop them from returning. All Stripped Skincare products are vegan. Yay!
